What are Venetian blinds?

Venetian blinds use horizontal slats that can be tilted, raised or lowered. The key advantage is the tilt: instead of uncovering the whole window whenever the light changes, you can adjust the slats to soften glare, keep useful daylight or screen the room more strongly from view.
