Planning and measuring are not the same thing. You can make many of the important decisions before the home is ready for its final professional measure.

During the build

Identify priority rooms, large glazing, bays, shaped windows and any areas where privacy or blackout will matter immediately.

Finishing stages

Start comparing product types, colours and finishes. This is also the point to think about a consistent scheme across the home.

Ready to measure

Once windows are fitted and the surrounding plastering and finishes are complete, accurate final measuring can normally take place.

When should we measure?

Final measurements need the finished window — not your best estimate.

You can plan the scheme early, but final made-to-measure dimensions should be taken from the actual finished opening.

For most new builds, that means waiting until the windows are installed and the plastering around them is complete enough that the finished dimensions are not still changing.

When is a new-build home ready for final window measuring?

For most projects, final measuring is best once the windows are installed and the plastering or finishes around them are complete enough that the final dimensions are stable.

Do I need my own window measurements before booking?
