Tier on Tier Shutters are a more flexible option for adding both style and functionality to your windows. The advantage of plantation shutters is that they are a sturdy choice built into the recess. Whether you want to keep your home warm by closing the shutters or cool a space down by opening them, the plantation shutters will suit each need.
These shutters function similarly to the traditional Full Height shutter but they do not reach the top to bottom of the window in one door, but are split into two doors on top of each other on each window. They still feature horizontal ‘louvred’ slats across the panels. The plantation shutter is designed to allow these slats to tilt. This allows control over how much light and air is allowed in, whilst still being as practical as they are stylish.
The main advantage of choosing Tier on Tier over Full Height is that you have more flexibility. You can open each door individually, giving you greater control over how much light and air you wish to allow in. When all of them are fully closed they will still limit cold air coming into the home and block out light, but they can allow air or light through each individual door as you require.

Here at Village Blinds and Shutters, we have different types of Tier on Tier Shutters available for installation in your home. Each of these will help the shutter better meet your function or design needs. They are;
A central tilt rod is the traditional style for Tier on Tier Plantation Shutters. This tilt rod is attached to the panel in the centre and runs vertically down the louvred slats. This ensures that when you move the slats they will all move together. Often this is a popular choice for more traditional style homes.
A hidden tilt is the more modern variation for a Tier on Tier Plantation Shutter. Rather than having the tilt rod run down the centre, it is positioned at the backside of the panel. It performs the same function, ensuring the louvred slats move together. These have seen increasing popularity in more modern homes, but are often chosen simply for a preference of not having the tilt road easily accessible.

Not sure what to expect? Here are the most common questions about booking a free home appointment with Village Blinds and Shutters.
One of our design consultants will visit your home during your chosen time slot. They will discuss what you need, measure your windows, talk through suitable blinds or shutters, and provide a quotation based on your choices.
A 1–10 blinds appointment usually takes around 30 minutes. Larger blinds appointments and shutter appointments usually take around 60 minutes, depending on the number of windows and the level of advice needed.
Please make sure there is clear access to the windows being measured. If possible, move any furniture, ornaments or breakables away from the window area before your appointment.
For the most accurate measurements, it is best to book once your windows are in and plastering has been completed. Ideally, skirting and architrave close to the windows should also be finished before blinds are installed.
In many cases, your design consultant can provide your quotation during the appointment. For more bespoke projects, pricing may take a little longer. If you have not heard from us within 24 hours, please contact our team and we will check this for you.
Lead times vary depending on the product, materials and production schedule. Your design consultant will give you the most up-to-date timescale when you place your order.
Village Blinds and Shutters offers free home appointments across Northern Ireland, including Ballymena, Belfast, Bangor, Armagh, Strabane and surrounding areas.
Our design consultants aim to arrive within your scheduled time slot, but traffic or other unforeseen delays can occasionally happen. If you have any concerns about your appointment, please call our booking team on 0800 059 0747.
You can choose a morning, midday or afternoon appointment slot. This gives your design consultant enough time to travel between appointments and spend the right amount of time advising, measuring and quoting for your project.
