Plan before moving day

Your new home is nearly ready. What about the windows?

A new build often means dealing with more windows at once than a normal home-improvement project.

The main bedroom needs privacy. Children’s rooms may need better light control. The kitchen could have a large run of glass. Patio or bifold doors need something practical. Once the lights go on at night, those open windows can suddenly feel far more exposed.

Planning the project together means each room can do its job while the overall home still feels considered and consistent.

5 windows. 10 windows. 15 windows. One home to plan properly.

Room by room

Different windows. Different jobs.

The best whole-home plan is not about forcing one product everywhere. It is about deciding what each room needs, then making those choices work together.

01 · Privacy

Feel at home from the first evening.

New developments can mean neighbouring homes are relatively close. We can help you compare options that protect privacy without unnecessarily shutting out daylight.

02 · Bedrooms

Better control when the day starts before you do.

For main bedrooms, children’s rooms and nurseries, light control can matter just as much as the look of the blind.

03 · Large glazing

Big glazing needs a considered solution.

Open-plan kitchens, patio doors, bifolds and wider windows all need products chosen around the opening, the scale and how the space is used.

04 · Whole home

Make the rooms belong together.

Use colour, material and finish to create a consistent result while still choosing the right product for each individual window.

When should we measure?

You don’t need to wait until the boxes are unpacked.

For most new-build projects, accurate final measuring is best once the windows are installed and the plastering around them is complete.

If you know roughly when the home will be ready, contact us beforehand and we can help you plan the appropriate point for the appointment.

This will often be the right point for accurate final measurements.

We can measure and plan the project from the finished rooms.

Blinds, shutters or both

Start with what the room needs — not a product name.

You do not have to decide everything before your appointment. We can compare suitable options against the actual windows, your interiors and the way each room will be used.

Made-to-measure blinds

Roller, Roman, Day & Night, Cellular, Venetian, Perfect Fit and motorised options can all solve different practical needs.

Plantation shutters

For adjustable privacy, architectural detail and a more permanent fitted finish, shutters can be planned as part of the wider project.

A mixture throughout the home

Shutters at the front, blackout in bedrooms and another solution for larger kitchen glazing can often be the strongest overall plan.

Planning shutters for the new home?

Plantation shutters can become part of the architecture of the room rather than an afterthought at the window.

They can be considered alongside the rest of your blind choices during the same new-home project.

Useful things to know

New-build blinds and shutters: FAQs

If your project is unusual, the simplest next step is to book a home appointment and talk it through with us.

When should I arrange blinds for a new-build home?

It is worth starting the conversation before moving day, particularly if you need window coverings across several rooms. Accurate final measuring will normally take place once the windows are installed and the plastering around them is complete.

Do I need to measure the windows myself?

No. Professional measuring is part of your free home appointment.

Can Village measure the whole house in one appointment?

Yes. For larger and new-build projects we allow more appointment time so multiple rooms and windows can be considered together.

Do I need to know which blinds I want before booking?

No. It is more useful to think about what each room needs — privacy, blackout, light control, ease of operation or a particular look.

Can I choose both blinds and plantation shutters?

Yes. Different windows may suit different products, and both can be discussed as part of the same new-home project.

What blinds work well in new-build bedrooms?

The right option depends on the window and the level of darkness and privacy you want. Roller, Roman, Cellular and other systems can all be considered.

What can I use on large windows or patio doors?

There are several options depending on the width, glazing, door operation and how you want to use the opening. These windows are best specified around the actual installation.

Do you cover new-build homes throughout Northern Ireland?

Yes. Village Blinds and Shutters provides free home appointments across Northern Ireland, subject to area and appointment availability.
