Comfort built into the blind

Honeycomb construction helps manage more than light.

Cellular blinds use a pocketed honeycomb structure that traps air within the blind. That structure can help reduce heat transfer at the window while giving you precise control over daylight and privacy.

Add motorisation and the blind becomes easier to use throughout the day — particularly on wide glazing, high windows or rooms where several blinds need to move together.

  • Light filtering
  • Blackout options
  • Improved window insulation
  • Cord-free operation

Why choose motorised cellular blinds?

A practical choice for modern homes and large glazing.

The strongest reason to choose this combination is that the product solves two problems at once: the cellular fabric helps manage the window environment, while motorisation makes daily control simple.

01

Thermal comfort

The honeycomb pockets create an insulating air layer at the glass, helping reduce heat movement through the window.

02

Effortless control

Raise or lower blinds without cords, reaching across furniture or handling multiple blinds individually.

03

Flexible privacy

Choose light-filtering or stronger room-darkening fabrics depending on how the room needs to work.

04

Clean modern finish

The pleated fabric sits neatly at the window and suits contemporary interiors, extensions and new-build schemes.

Designed around the window

The detail is what makes cellular different.

From the front, cellular blinds have a soft, streamlined pleated appearance. At the side, the repeating cells reveal the air pockets that give the blind its distinctive construction.

Your design consultant can help you compare suitable fabrics, opacity levels and operating options in your own room, so the finished blind is chosen for the way you actually use the space.

Somfy motorisation

Control one blind, a room or a routine.

Somfy motorisation can be configured for straightforward remote control or, with compatible smart-home equipment, for app-based control and automated scenes. This can be particularly useful where several blinds need to move together or where windows are difficult to reach.

During your home appointment we can advise on suitable control and power options for your project rather than adding technology you do not need.

See the product in motion

A blind you can use without breaking the flow of the room.

Motorisation is most valuable when it disappears into the background. One press can adjust a blind without walking to the window, reaching over furniture or handling a cord.

For larger projects, compatible controls can also group blinds so several windows respond together — useful in open-plan rooms, bedrooms, extensions and wide glazed areas.

Where they work particularly well

Choose the blind around the room, not just the window.

Bedrooms

Pair motorisation with a suitable room-darkening or blackout cellular fabric for convenient privacy and better light control.

Extensions & sunrooms

Useful where wide areas of glazing need regular adjustment as daylight and temperature change through the day.

New-build homes

Plan motor and power options early so blinds integrate cleanly with the finished interior.

Hard-to-reach windows

Motorisation can remove the need to stretch, climb or access awkward windows manually, subject to window suitability.

Common questions

Motorised cellular blinds FAQ

Are motorised cellular blinds suitable for every window?

Not every blind specification suits every window. During your home appointment we assess the window size, fixing position, access, fabric choice and motorisation requirements before recommending a system.

Can cellular blinds help with insulation?

Yes. Their honeycomb structure creates air pockets within the blind, which can help reduce heat transfer at the window. Performance varies by product, fabric, window and installation.

Can motorised cellular blinds be blackout?

Blackout and room-darkening options are available for suitable applications. As with most internal blinds, small peripheral light gaps can remain around the blind, so we will explain what level of darkness is realistic for your window.

How are motorised cellular blinds controlled?

Depending on the selected system, control can include a handheld or wall control and, with compatible Somfy smart-home equipment, app-based control and automated scenes.

Do I need a smart-home system?

No. A straightforward motorised blind can be controlled without building a full smart-home system. Smart controls are optional where they add value.

Can several blinds operate together?

Yes, compatible systems can be configured so multiple blinds respond as a group, for example across one room or a large glazed area.

Do you measure and fit across Northern Ireland?

Yes. Village Blinds and Shutters provides free home appointments, measuring, made-to-measure manufacture and professional fitting across Northern Ireland.
