These are the three things Roo wants you to remember.

Something hanging down?

Don't play with a blind cord or chain. Tell a grown-up if you see one that a little child could reach.

Something to climb?

Chairs and other furniture can help little children get closer to things around a window.

Spot something?

You don't need to fix it yourself. Leave it alone and tell a parent, teacher or another grown-up.

The safety lesson behind the game.

Roo-Proof the Room is a free P1–P3 learning activity designed to help younger primary-school children recognise situations where a baby or small child could gain access to a window blind cord or chain.

The child is deliberately never asked to fit, adjust or repair a blind or safety device. The behaviour taught throughout the game is: recognise it, leave it alone and tell a responsible adult.

✓ Operating cords and chains that form loops can present a hazard to babies and young children.
✓ Furniture can give a young child a climbing route towards a blind cord or chain.
✓ Children should tell a responsible adult rather than trying to alter a blind or safety device themselves.
