We recently had the pleasure of working on a North County Antrim Motorised Blinds project to bring a modern and stylish dressing to address several needs in their home.
We were sought after to provide this as the customer had seen our success in similar projects and our ability to work on large and complex projects, such as a similar style of Motorised Blinds in a Home in Ballymena, providing a tailored approach that focused on their aims.
Antrim Motorised Blinds Project
Our customer’s home was a lovely, large home in the countryside. It had many large modern-style windows that not only allowed lots of lovely natural light into their home but also provided an excellent view of their surroundings.
Their home used a modern-traditional décor, incorporating aspects of contemporary minimalist style, with more traditional aspects reflective of the local area. This would require a style that is modern and stylish without being too bold to clash with the more traditional elements.

Customer Needs
Our customer had a few key needs that any Blinds would need to meet.
Style
As previously stated, it was important to make sure that any Blinds would complement both the more modern and traditional aspects of our customer’s décor. This meant our Design Consultant had to find a balance, providing a sleek and minimalist look that could work with almost any style of décor.
Motorised Roller Blinds for Maximum Convenience
With a number of large and at times hard to reach windows, providing convenience for using the blinds was important for our customer. They had expressed that with manually operated Blinds they would likely only lower them in the evening and raise them in the morning, meaning they might not maximise the use for other purposes such as blocking glare due to the work in operating many large blinds.
Temperature vs Natural Light
A major issue our customer had in their home was heat during the day. When it was a sunnier day the large windows would result in a lot of heat in the home, at times becoming quite unbearable.
The Energy Saving Trust recommend Blinds as a way to cool your home when it gets too warm. By closing Blinds you can prevent heat entering your home, which is much easier than cooling it down after it has become too warm.
This means the easy solution for a home that gets too warm is to. provide Blinds that could block the heat out and keep your home cooler however, our customer enjoyed having natural light in their home and having a beautiful view during the day. This meant we needed to provide a blind that would only block some of the light, keeping the home bright and allowing our customer to still see their view.
Antrim Motorised Blinds Solution
To accommodate our customer’s needs we provided Motorised Roller Blinds attached to a TaHoma system in their home. As Somfy Certified Experts we were a clear choice for an Antrim Motorised Blinds project as the local expert in the latest Blinds technology.
Making an Entrance with Motorised Blinds
In the entrance area, we provided Motorised Roller Blinds with a partially transparent fabric. This meant they were still able to block out some heat from the home whilst keeping the space bright with natural light.
These blinds in particular were both large and high up which meant Motorisation was essential. This is because not only would it be impossible for our customer to reach their Blinds but the large one in particular would be quite heavy due to the amount of fabric needed to cover the full window.

Living Room – Creating a Relaxing Chilled Vibe
Our Design Consultant suggested a slightly different approach in the living room. Our customer had initially planned to go for Roller Blinds throughout their home but when we suggested Motorised Aura Blinds in the living room, they loved the idea.
The advantage of Aura Blinds is their combination of translucent and transparent fabric to quickly switch between allowing light, just blocking glare, and allowing no light. This is great for a room like this, where light levels can affect your ability to relax and watch tv or read and enjoy your free time.
By using Aura Blinds we also added a little bit of variety to this Antrim Motorised Blinds project, ensuring that all of the Blinds were not exactly the same and giving a section of the home a unique personality.

Motorised Blinds Bring Effortless Privacy to the Bedrooms
For the bedrooms in our Antrim Motorised Blinds project we used a similar Motorised Roller Blind to the other parts of the home with one key difference. They used a solid fabric to allow less light into them. This worked well as our customer spent less time sitting in their room and more in the rest of their home.
The bedrooms did not need to allow natural light when closed as they were mostly used at night for sleeping, a time when more darkness is desired. Making sure to check these details is very important for our Design Consultants to ensure they meet all of our customer’s needs.
Smarter Motorised Blinds control using Somfy Tahoma
To provide greater convenience throughout our customer’s home we provided a TaHoma system. This is a system for Motorised Blinds designed by Somfy that allows the blinds to connect to a box which allows complete control from any device connected to it. This really upgraded the Antrim Motorised Blinds project, providing our customer with a number of benefits.
This not only provided the handy option of raising and lowering blinds from our customer’s smartphone but also allowed them to set up timings for their blinds to automatically raise in the morning and lower in the evening. Our customer enjoyed this feature and even connected their Alexa device for extra convenient control.
Antrim Motorised Roller Blinds Project – Final Thoughts
We were delighted with how our Antrim Motorised Blinds project turned out. Our customer was also happy, stating that not only had we provided everything they had wanted, but that our Design Consultant had also suggested a number of ideas that enhanced the project even more.
Our customer now has beautiful blinds which help control the temperature that had previously caused trouble in their home. They still were able to have lots of natural light in key areas in their home and see their lovely countryside view.

Are Motorised Blinds worth it?
Motorised Blinds provide convenience and comfort in your home, this is well worth the added cost as it will provide greater ease at controlling the light and temperature in your home.
Do Electric Blinds use a lot of electricity?
Our Motorised Blinds use a minimal amount of electricity. This is because the motors require very little power and will generally be used no more than a few times each day.
How often do Motorised Blinds need to be recharged?
If a motor is wired in it will not need recharged. The rechargeable batteries will need 8 hours to fully charge but this will last for months with standard use.
Can you manually pull down Motorised Blinds?
No. Motorised Blinds do not have a manual chord, this prevents manual use but also ensures a greater level of child safety.
