Top 3 Interior Design Tips to Help Beat the Winter Blues.

The festive season is a magical time for decorating your home, with twinkling lights, lush garlands, and sparkling ornaments creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. But when January rolls around and it’s time to pack away the decorations, many of us are left with rooms that feel bare and uninspiring.

Don’t let the post-Christmas blues take over your home! With a few clever interior design tweaks, you can maintain that cosy, inviting feel long after the festivities are over. Let’s explore some simple and stylish ways to refresh your space for the New Year, with our top 3 interior design tips to help beat the winter blues.

Why Does Your Home Feel Bare After Christmas?

During the festive season, our homes are filled with layers of texture, light, and colour from Christmas trees, fairy lights, and seasonal décor. When these are removed, it’s natural for rooms to feel emptier. The key to maintaining a cosy vibe lies in replacing those seasonal elements with thoughtful design choices that bring warmth and personality to your space.

Home Decor Tips To Create a Cosy Aesthetic After the Holidays

Here are some interior décor ideas to keep your home feeling snug and welcoming as you transition into the New Year:

1. Introduce Soft Textures For That Cosy Home Vibe.

Textures play a vital role in creating a cosy atmosphere. Swap out lightweight throws and cushions for plush, tactile materials like velvet, faux fur, or chunky knits. A mix of textures adds depth and makes a room feel layered and inviting.

  • Layer a knitted blanket over your sofa.
  • Add a faux fur cushion to your favourite armchair.
  • Swap sleek rugs for softer, high-pile options.

2. Reintroduce Warm Lighting to beat winter blues

One of the biggest contributors to a cosy Christmas atmosphere is lighting, so it’s essential to keep the glow alive even after the fairy lights are packed away.

  • Use table lamps with warm-toned bulbs to create pools of light.
  • Incorporate candles or LED tealights for a soft, flickering effect.
  • Consider adding a string of subtle fairy lights around a mirror or curtain rail for a touch of understated charm.

3. Bring Nature Indoors to create inviting spaces

Just because the festive greenery is gone doesn’t mean your home has to feel lifeless. Introduce natural elements like houseplants, dried flowers, or branches to bring warmth and texture to your space.

  • Arrange a few dried eucalyptus stems in a glass vase.
  • Add a cluster of potted plants to your windowsill.
  • Display pinecones or wooden bowls to maintain a natural vibe.

Refreshing Your Colour Palette With Seasonal Styling

Winter is the perfect time to embrace warm, earthy tones and soft neutrals that evoke a sense of calm. If your home feels stark after the holidays, consider updating your colour palette:

  • Add deep greens, rust oranges, or warm browns through cushions or throws.
  • Use beige, taupe, or cream tones for a soothing, neutral base.
  • Introduce metallic accents like gold or copper to add a touch of luxury.

Rearrange and Restyle For That Winter Home Refresh

Sometimes, a simple rearrangement of furniture and accessories can completely transform the feel of a room. Try these ideas to give your space a new lease of life this winter:

  • Move your furniture to create a more intimate seating area, especially in larger rooms.
  • Style your coffee table or shelves with decorative items like books, candles, or small plants.
  • Add layers to bare surfaces with textured runners, placemats, or trays.

Use Window Shutters and Blinds to Set the Mood

After the Christmas lights come down, windows can feel stark and bare. Dressing them with the right window treatments can help frame your space, add warmth, and improve the overall ambience of your room.

  • Layer curtains over blinds for a soft, cosy look.
  • Choose warm-toned or textured materials to add depth.
  • Ensure your window treatments allow you to control light levels to create the perfect atmosphere, whether it’s a bright winter morning or a quiet evening by the fire.

Accessories That Add Instant Warmth & Winter Comfort

Accessories are the finishing touches that bring a room to life. After Christmas, consider adding:

  • Mirrors: These reflect light and make a room feel more open and welcoming.
  • Artwork: Swap seasonal prints for abstract pieces or nature-inspired designs.
  • Throws and Cushions: Opt for patterns and fabrics that add a sense of comfort.

Village Blinds and Shutters Home Appointments FAQ

Our design consultant will arrive at the agreed time slot and ask you questions about your requirements and style preferences to help understand your project. They will measure your windows and discuss fabric/material options and provide you with a quotation based on your choices.

Depending on your requirements, a home appointment can take from 30 minutes for 1-10 blinds, to 60 minutes for 10+ blinds or window shutters. Our design consultant will work at your pace and we’re happy to stay longer to talk through your options and provide advice if you’d like.

We would ask ahead of the home appointment that you have arranged clear access to the window areas being measured and that any obstructing furniture or breakables near the windows are removed.

Once the windows are in, plastering has been completed and any tiling or skirting or architrave that might be close to the blinds has been installed. This will allow our design consultant to take accurate measurements.

Usually, our design consultant will be able to provide you with your quotation during your appointment.  Sometimes for some very bespoke projects pricing can take a little longer. If you haven’t heard back within 24 hours, give them a call or email and they will keep you updated.

Our production team work tirelessly to craft every single blind and shutter for our customers individually. Lead in times can vary depending on factors such as material availability and our production schedule. That being said we will always work to get your order as quickly as possible. Ask your design consultant for an up-to-date lead time estimate.
